Whispers of Concern
Mid-1980s: The Seeds of Unity
The idea of forming a family organization began in the mid-1980s as members of the first generation of YAMDU gathered to address their shared concerns. Driven by the fear of losing touch with one another due to relocations for education, economic pursuits, and personal goals, they felt a pull to unite.
These moves created a widening gap, separating them from the joyous gatherings of their childhood. Even more poignant was the realization that some members, living in distant cities or neighborhoods, were unaware of each other's presence. The limited communication options of that era heightened their worries.
From that yearning for connection, YAMDU was born. Initially created as a social and welfare organization, its mission was to link everyone together, but it has since evolved into something much greater.

The Royal Blessing
The initiative to unite under one banner was met with overwhelming joy by the parents of the first generation of YAMDU. HRH Alhaji Yakubu Adaji welcomed this initiative with deep emotion, inspiring the first generation to strengthen their organizational foundation.
Regular visits to the Palace for blessings and guidance became a cherished tradition, with HRH Alhaji Yakubu Adaji imparting invaluable family history that continues to resonate with members today.
The Formative Phase
Building the Foundation
In its formative phase, YAMDU exhibited a membership comprised of youthful idealism, innocence and a measure of naïveté. Prospective members, irrespective of their experience and status, were always welcomed and encouraged to engage in meetings, thus promoting a culture of collective learning and reciprocal support.
The Name Evolution
Originally named YAKUBU ADAJI MERCIFUL DESCENDANT UNION, the organization later transitioned to include the word "MEMORIAL". This thoughtful change preserved the familiar acronym while honoring its heritage.
The founding members embraced HRH Alhaji Yakubu Adaji as the "pivotal pillar" of YAMDU, believing that his legacy would continue to inspire future generations. His life story and rich ancestral heritage underscored the significance of establishing this organization.
The Grand Inauguration

On December 31, 1989, YAMDU was officially inaugurated at the Women's Domestic Centre in Ankpa, Kogi State. This event became a momentous occasion for the royal family and guests, marking a new chapter in their shared journey.
The Representative's Address
YAMDU's Premier Grand Patron, HRH Alhaji Yakubu Adaji, was meant to chair the event; however, his son, Alhaji Jibrin Yakubu (Baba Teacher), stepped in to represent him, fulfilling a dual role as both representative and guest speaker.
In his speech, Alhaji Jibrin Yakubu conveyed the delight of HRH Alhaji Yakubu Adaji regarding the establishment of YAMDU, viewing it as a noble initiative by his grandchildren. He expressed a profound sense of honor that the organization had opted to adopt his name.
The Message of Mercy
While addressing the audience as a guest speaker, Alhaji Jibrin Yakubu expressed the essence of the attributes of Allah, explicitly referencing the term "MERCIFUL" in the organization's title. He urged members to embrace peace and righteousness, believing such values would foster unity in their governance of YAMDU.
